A resident of Sharon, MA for 50 years, Dr. Spielman was a founder of the Young Israel of Sharon (President for 2 terms) and a founder of Congregation Etz Chaim in Sharon. As a youth, in a Shomer Shabbat Scout Troop in Far Rockaway, NY, he earned Eagle Scout with four Palms, and the Ner Tamid. A Scout and Scouter for over 65 years, he has served as Scoutmaster of his Shomer Shabbat Troop 54 for over 35 years and has led his Troop for 36 summers to Scout camps with a kosher dining hall. He was Wood Badge trained in 1987 and has staffed two ‘Sabbath Observant’ Wood Badge Courses. He’s been to Philmont three times and has led a number of Shomer Shabbat High Adventure Treks, including a: 69-mile Horseback Trek in the Colorado Rockies, 100-mile Canoe Trek in the Adirondacks, and 150-mile Cycling Merit Badge Trek through the Catskill Mountains. His previous Jamboree experience includes:

  • 1960 National Scout Jamboree in Colorado Springs with a Shomer Shabbat Troop from New York City.
  • 1989 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent and on NE Region Staff.
  • 1993 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent & Jamboree Troop 1205 Scoutmaster.
  • 1997 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent & Jamboree Troop 406 Scoutmaster.
  • 2001 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent & Jamboree Troop 510 Scoutmaster.
  • 2005 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent.
  • 2010 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent.
  • 2013 National Scout Jamboree, Leader of the Shomer Shabbat Contingent & Venture Crew Advisor.

Dr. Spielman has been awarded the Silver Beaver, Shofar Award, and the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow and is a member of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting Advisory Board. He holds BS, MA, MBA, & Ph.D. degrees, and is a Management Consultant. He is married with two Eagle Scout sons, both graduates of Yeshiva University. Very proud of his wife for serving on Wood Badge Staff (and also two Jamborees!!), he and his wife have been honored by Yeshivat Sha’alvim.
